Sam lives in a place where everything is polished and secrets are cleaned up and kept. So when Georgina goes missing, everyone acts like nothing happened. Bird world (2012)

7 min - Animation

SPARROW is struck by a plane and lands wounded in a mysterious city inhabited by anthropomorphised birds. With the chaos of urban life all around him, Sparrow goes on a heady journey of self-discovery and is faced with a choice: should he follow his natural instinct and flee, or adapt his nature and embrace city life. This animated short with its distinctive illustrative style is a seductively immersive experience about our unnatural love affair with the city. A film for anyone who has ever lost him or herself.

Editor – Arttu Salmi

Born and raised in Finland, Arttu became addicted to cinema from early age through his dad's obsession for Hitchcock and neo-realism. He worked for four years as a film projectionist while studying editing in Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Art and Media (4-year BA). Whilst there, he cut several award winning shorts and became fascinated with not only editing image and sound, but with story and structure. His graduation short film, "The Electrician" (2009) won numerous international prizes, including the audience award in Up and Coming (Hanover, Germany) and the Special Jury Award at Sichuan TV Festival (China) as well as competing in over 20 international film festivals.

For Arttu's final semester, as an exchange student, he opted to study at FAMU (Czech Republic) strengthening his grasp of cinematic language before coming to the National Film and TV School in Britain to study a two-year MA in Editing. He has established a number of strong working relationships at the NFTS, and although more experienced with fiction narratives, has also edited short documentaries, animations, experimental films, commercials and music videos. He was also a participant at the Berlinale Talent Campus 2012. Having graduated from the NFTS, he will be based in London working as a professional film editor for both documentary and fiction.
